When was Hawaiian Telcom founded?
 Hawaiian Telcom was formed on August 16, 1883 as Mutual Telephone Company. The Company was renamed Hawaiian Telephone Company in 1954 and became a wholly-owned subsidiary of GTE in 1967. In 2000, GTE Hawaiian Tel became Verizon Hawaii when parent company GTE Corp. merged with Bell Atlantic to form Verizon Communications. On May 2, 2005, Hawaiian Telcom Holdco, Inc., which was incorporated by The Carlyle Group on May 19, 2004, acquired Verizon Hawaii.
